Argentina Set to Export Nuts to China: A Major Opportunity for Regional Economies

Good news has arrived for Argentina’s nut industry. On the same day that agreements were reached for the reopening of poultry meat exports, sanitary protocols were also signed to enable the export of walnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts, and pistachios to China.

The announcement was made by Argentina’s Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo, and the Deputy Minister of the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), Wang Lingjun.

Expanding Market Opportunities

The authorization for nut exports presents significant opportunities for Argentina’s regional economies, which are experiencing local production growth and striving for a stronger presence in the international market.

One of the key beneficiaries of this agreement is the pecan industry in the Entre Ríos region, the leading producer of this nut in Argentina.

Cynthia Cabrol, Director of International Relations at the Ministry of Economic Development of Entre Ríos, emphasized the next steps: “The next phase involves registering exporting establishments with Senasa for shipments to China, and we are actively working on this process.”

Looking Ahead to 2025

The meeting between Argentine and Chinese officials also outlined priorities for 2025 regarding sanitary approvals, including the upcoming signing of protocols for dried plums.

This agreement marks a milestone in Argentina’s agricultural exports, fostering economic growth and international trade relations with China.
