Argentinian President Orders Immediate Investigation into LIBRA Cryptocurrency Project

On February 15, the Office of the President of Argentina announced that President Javier Milei has decided to involve the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) in the investigation of the “Viva la Libertad” project.

“In light of recent events, President Javier Milei has decided to immediately involve the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) to determine whether any improper conduct has been committed by any member of the National Government, including the President himself,” stated the Office of the President.

Creation of a Special Investigation Unit

Additionally, the President has ordered the establishment of a Task Force Investigation Unit (UTI) within the scope of the Presidency of the Nation. The purpose of this unit is to urgently investigate the launch of the LIBRA cryptocurrency and all entities or individuals associated with the project.

According to the official statement, the UTI will consist of representatives from government bodies with expertise in cryptocurrencies, financial activities, money laundering, and other related areas.

The Office of the President has justified the decision by clarifying that neither President Milei nor any governmental entity had any role in the development of the LIBRA cryptocurrency. Due to the controversy surrounding the project, the President decided to remove his personal tweet endorsing KIP Protocol’s launch to avoid speculation and prevent further dissemination of the project.

Controversial Meeting with Hayden Mark Davis

Further details reveal that on January 30, 2025, President Milei met at Casa Rosada with Hayden Mark Davis, the individual responsible for providing the technological infrastructure for KIP Protocol. However, the Office of the President asserts that Davis has no official ties to the Argentine government and was introduced by KIP Protocol representatives as one of their project partners.

The meeting, attended by President Milei, KIP Protocol representatives Mauricio Novellli and Julian Peh, and Presidential Spokesperson Manuel Adorni, was officially recorded in the Register of Public Audiences.

Legal Actions Against President Milei

The LIBRA controversy has led to legal repercussions. A group of Argentine lawyers has filed a lawsuit against President Milei, alleging possible fraud linked to the LIBRA token. They are preparing a class-action lawsuit to hold those responsible accountable.

According to the Office of the President, all findings from the investigation will be handed over to the judiciary to determine whether any crimes were committed by KIP Protocol or its affiliates.

“President Milei, who has consistently demonstrated his commitment to transparency and truth, is dedicated to fully clarifying this matter,” concluded the official statement from the Office of the President.
