Epic Aerospace and Argentina’s Space Industry: A Step Towards Innovation

As part of Argentina’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its space sector, the Secretary of Innovation, Science, and Technology, DarĂo Genua, visited the technical testing facility of the Argentine startup Epic Aerospace in Ezeiza today. During the visit, government officials had the opportunity to observe the company’s equipment and the testing processes for their space tug propulsion systems.

A Mission with NASA

The visit comes just days before Epic Aerospace participates in a joint space mission with NASA. The company will take advantage of the launch of the Athena lunar lander by Intuitive Machines to send a transfer vehicle into space. This vehicle will be deployed to a geostationary orbit at an altitude of 35,000 km to secure an orbital position.

During the visit, Genua praised the work of Epic Aerospace’s engineers and technicians, highlighting their commitment to technological advancement and the creation of private enterprises that generate high-value innovation.

“Epic has overcome all obstacles to successfully launch a space tug alongside SpaceX and NASA. Our role is to drive the development of such initiatives, which is why the Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology supports these kinds of projects. We wish them all the success in their upcoming launch next February.”

A Young Company with a Big Vision

Epic Aerospace is a young startup specializing in space tugs, founded by 27-year-old Argentine engineer Ignacio Belieres Montero. The company’s mission is to place small satellites that lack engines or fuel into their exact orbits, ensuring their operational success.

Two months ago, Belieres Montero and his team met with Secretary Genua, who committed to supporting this Argentine venture that is carrying the national flag to new heights. To facilitate their progress, the government has worked to expedite key processes for importing essential components.

Strengthening Public-Private Collaboration

In addition to these efforts, a framework cooperation agreement was signed between the Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Epic Aerospace, the National Commission of Space Activities (CONAE), and the technology services company Veng. This agreement aims to promote public-private collaboration in the research and development of space science and technology.

Argentina’s growing space industry continues to make significant strides, and Epic Aerospace is at the forefront of this advancement. With strong government support and international partnerships, the company is poised to play a crucial role in the future of space exploration.
