Nubity: The Argentine Cloud Computing Company Acquired by Evertec

Nubity, an Argentine company specializing in cloud computing solutions, has been acquired by Evertec, a multinational corporation headquartered in Puerto Rico. Evertec, listed on the Nasdaq and operating in 26 countries, finalized the acquisition in November 2024 after two years of negotiations.

The story of Nubity traces back to La Pampa, Argentina, where its founders, Darío Peña and Juan Ozino Caligaris, grew up before moving to Buenos Aires to study engineering. From a young age, they demonstrated an entrepreneurial spirit. In 2003, they founded IpAddress, a hosting company that grew into a small business with 30 employees before being sold in 2013.

With the experience and capital gained from IpAddress, Peña and Ozino established Nubity in 2013 with a more ambitious vision: to provide cloud services on a global scale. The company’s breakthrough came in 2014 when it secured backing from San Francisco’s 500 Startups investment fund, enabling expansion across Latin America. To facilitate this growth, Peña relocated to Mexico, attracted by the market size and cultural affinity. Over time, Nubity diversified its services to include cloud migration and monitoring, attracting high-profile clients such as Bimbo and strengthening its partnership with Amazon Web Services.

Nubity’s rapid growth drew the attention of major corporations, leading to its acquisition by Evertec. Despite the buyout, Peña and Ozino continue to lead Nubity within Evertec’s structure while maintaining operational autonomy.

Currently, Nubity operates offices in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, and General Pico, La Pampa, where a team of developers provides services to international clients. “As someone from La Pampa, I take pride in the fact that we work with global companies like Amazon and Bimbo from our province,” Peña stated.

Although the long-term future of the founders within the multinational remains uncertain, they are currently focused on expanding Nubity under Evertec’s umbrella, further consolidating its impact in the global tech industry.
