Talleres de Córdoba was eliminated in the Round of 64 of the Copa Argentina after losing in a penalty shootout against Deportivo Armenio. The match, held this afternoon at Colón’s stadium, ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw before Armenio secured their victory with a 5-4 win in the shootout.
A Thrilling Match with Six Goals
The game started in favor of Talleres, who quickly took a 2-0 lead. The first goal came at the 16th minute after a brilliant individual play by winger Valentín Depietri on the left flank. He delivered a precise pass to the center, where striker Cristian Tarragona finished with a powerful shot.
Just three minutes later, Depietri was once again instrumental. He provided a through pass to defender Blas Riveros, who advanced swiftly down the left side and sent in a low cross. Midfielder Rubén Botta capitalized on the opportunity, pushing the ball into the net to extend the lead.
However, Deportivo Armenio staged a remarkable comeback in the second half, led by forward Jonathan Herrera. Four minutes into the second half, Herrera made a diagonal run inside the right side of the box and received a through pass from midfielder Nahuel Sica. He finished with power, sending the ball past goalkeeper Javier Burrai and cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Just four minutes later, the equalizer arrived. Defender Ian Pérez delivered a perfectly placed pass, which Herrera controlled expertly. With a quick turn, he evaded the central defenders and finished with a low shot past Burrai into the far post.
The comeback was complete just two minutes later when midfielder Diego Barrionuevo delivered another precise through ball. Herrera once again found space behind the disorganized defense and calmly slotted the ball under Burrai, completing his impressive hat trick and giving Armenio a 3-2 lead.
Talleres, determined to fight back, found the equalizer through Emiliano “Bebelo” Reynoso. The midfielder controlled the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed a powerful shot into the top corner, bringing the score to 3-3 and sending the match to a penalty shootout.
Penalty Shootout Drama
In the decisive penalty shootout, Deportivo Armenio proved to be more precise. Talleres’ Marcos Portillo hit the post, while Armenio managed to convert all but one of their penalties. For Armenio, goalkeeper Iván López played a key role, and Reynoso also missed his attempt for Talleres. In the end, the Primera B Metropolitana team triumphed 5-4, achieving a historic qualification to the Round of 32, where they will face Deportivo Riestra.
This result marks a major disappointment for Talleres, a top-tier Argentine club, while Deportivo Armenio celebrates a momentous victory that will go down in the club’s history.
